Doug E. Carlberg

May 1, 1953 ~ April 24, 2017 (age 63)

The Piano Brothers

Doug Carlberg died in his home on April 24th, 2017.  He was 63.

Doug was born on May 1st, 1953 in Marshall County, Indiana to his parents Carol and Ronald.  A graduate of Triton High School in 1971, he excelled in a variety of athletic endeavors while keeping up with his studies.  In 1973, he married Pamela Sue Roberts, his high school sweetheart from Plymouth, IN and, shortly after, graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.  In 1974, he began his career teaching and coaching a variety of sports in high school while also introducing their first son Scott to the world.  In 1977, Doug and Pam welcomed Chad, their second son.  Scott and Chad ate a tremendous amount of food so his successful teaching and coaching career was diverted briefly, for 20 years, so that he could pursue a more lucrative career in the wine and spirits industry.  Two more daughters, Andrea and Krista, arrived in 1984 and 1986 completing the family.  In 2004, he made a decision to go back to what he loved, teaching and coaching the youth of America.  As a board member of Hamilton County’s Children’s Services, he helped improve countless lives in the Cincinnati area.

Doug was a kind-hearted, charismatic, man that loved his children and grandchildren.  He instilled high morals and a strong work ethic in his children.  Competitiveness was a critical aspect of their upbringing.  He enjoyed any opportunity to watch his children play sports and would travel many miles to do it.  He loved Westerns, Notre Dame football and the Green Bay Packers.  John Wayne and Vince Lombardi were idols.  He was an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed fishing, horseback riding, and camping.  First and foremost, though, he loved coaching football and basketball.

Doug is survived by his four children, Scott, Chad, Andrea, and Krista; seven grandchildren, Alanna, Payton, Ainsley, Lilly, Aidan, Jordan, and Henry; two sisters, Diane and Pam; and his mother, Carol.
