John Leonard Fender of Mason, OH passed away from an extended illness on Saturday, March 31st surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 10, 1945 in Covington, Kentucky. John was the son of the late Walter and Fern Hudson Fender of Covington, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by a brother Donald Ray Fender and a great-grandson, Kayden Owens.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Lana Cantrell Fender, sons Scott Fender (Rhonda), Shaun Owens (Christina), Shannon Owens, Rodney Hogsten and daughter Stephanie Hogsten. He was a loving grandfather to Megan Fender, Jacob Fender, Shaun Brett Owens, Quentin King, Chase Owens, Trevor Fender, Madison Owens, Jack Hogsten and Miley Bowlin. Great Grandchildren include Mahaila Spicer, Jayden Owens and Taelynn Mae Payne. He is also survived by a brother Paul D. Fender of Marysville, TN.
John was proud to be a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the First Calvary in the United States Army. After completing his military service he was a police officer with the Covington Police Department and a dispatcher with AAA. He enjoyed music of all kinds, sports and was a devoted Mason Comets football fan. He loved to help others and loved the Lord Jesus Christ.
Funeral arrangements include visitation on Wednesday, April 4th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at the Shorten and Ryan Funeral home in Mason, funeral services Thursday, April 5th at 11:00 am at the funeral home and burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mason.
