Born on April 17, 1943, in Lee County Virginia to Alonzo and Edith Bray. Carl grew into a man whose actions spoke louder than words. He answered the call of duty as a proud member of the United States Army, serving selflessly as a medic. His service was recognized with the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter (Rifle) distinction—testaments to his dedication and skill.

Yet, beyond the uniform, it was within his family that Carl discovered his true legacy. Was married to his wife, Elaine (nee Girdler), 45 years. As a father to Natalie (Kayne) Kauffman, Carl reveled in the pride that parenthood brought. His love only deepened as he became a grandfather to Breanne (Christian) Steele and Elisabeth Kauffman, and when he welcomed his great-grandchildren, Charlotte Steele and Kash Steele, his joy knew no bounds. He maintained a loving relationship with his brother Lavoy Bray and sister Barbara Shelton.

Carl’s life was also filled with simple joys. He found delight in watching horses at the race track, savoring the thrill of competition and the camaraderie that accompanied every victorious wager. Gambling became not just a pastime, but a means to create laughter, share stories, and celebrate the little triumphs—always the life of the party and the first to “buy a round”.

Though his earthly journey has come to an end, Carl’s greatest achievement lives on in those he loved. The love, laughter, and traditions he built will continue through generations. In their hearts, his family and friends will forever cherish the memories of a hardworking man whose presence was truly one of a kind.

Carl O. Bray’s spirit, generosity, and love will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
