Dennis L. Suttmiller, 93, of West Chester, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026 with family in attendance. Born October 21, 1932, he was the son of Frank and Leona (Staubach) Suttmiller. He lived his younger days in Batesville, Indiana and joined the United States Navy when he was 17 years old, proudly serving for three years on an LST during the Korean War.
He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Annabel (Batta). They would have had 72 years together on June 2nd of this year. Together, they raised nine children while living in Batesville, Indiana and Mason, Ohio. The oldest, Monica and her husband John Mendoza of California, sadly preceded him in death. Their surviving children are Dennis Jr. (Rita) Suttmiller of Tennessee, Marcia (Brent) Foster of Ohio, Betty (Bill) Stenten of Ohio, Annette Suttmiller of Ohio, Brian (Pam) Suttmiller of Florida, Susan Suttmiller of Ohio, Sarah (Steven) Viesselmann of Florida, and Jon (Vicky) Suttmiller of Ohio. Dennis was the proud grandparent of twenty-two and great-grandparent of eighteen. His eight older siblings preceded him in death: Genevieve Schuck, Cornelius, Frank, Philomena Hermesch, Joseph, Benedict, Fr. Francis (Albert) and Mary Ann Metz.
Dennis’s sense of humor was known to family and friends as well as his love of the outdoors and his penchant for telling stories. He was very frugal, trying to fix anything that was broken around the house. In his younger days while running free around Batesville, he would happily fish and hunt for rabbits and squirrels. He loved taking his children fishing and it was always a special day when they went to his brother’s pond to grill out by a campfire, fish, swim and jump off the swinging rope into the water. After moving to Mason, Ohio, Dennis had to adapt from farm life to a smaller yard and still produced thriving vegetable and rose gardens as well as growing several fruit trees. After retiring at 62, Annabel and Dennis moved to West Chester, Ohio where he continued gardening and started cooking as well. His family loved the Easter holiday where he started a tradition of making fresh, home-made donuts which were eaten warm by the family.
Dennis was a man marked by honor, loyalty, and many talents, yet his proudest achievement remained the immeasurable love he shared with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His legacy will live on in the hearts and lives of all those fortunate enough to have known him, a lasting tribute to a life well lived.
