Floyd K. Richards, a devoted family man and proud veteran, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at his home in Mason, Ohio. He honorably served our country in The United States Navy, embodying spirit of dedication and service.
Floyd was the beloved and devoted husband of Patricia (Pat) Richards (nee Mullen) with whom he shared 68+ wonderful years of marriage. They would have celebrated their 69th anniversary on September 17th. Together, they created a home filled with warmth and love. Floyd was blessed with two wonderful children, Cathy (Ken) Harbison and Greg (Cathie) Richards, who brought him immense pride and joy. He became a beloved grandfather to Rick (Sara) Harbison, Jessica (Ryan) Grabeman, Kyle (John Folk) Richards, and Kacey (Andria Schrock) Richards. He was a loving “Poppy” to his great grandchildren Nolan, Easton and Crosley Grabeman and Evelyn, Emelia, Cooper, and Scarlett Harbison who each held a special place in his heart and made his life full.
Floyd was proceeded in death by his parents D.K. Richards and Essie Richards (nee Farmer) seven brothers and one sister. He is survived by his loving sister Dorothy Staten (nee Richards). He is also survived by his sister-in-law Nancy Mercier and many nieces and nephews.
Floyd enjoyed all sports and was an avid Reds and Bengals fan. At West Chester High School, he played varsity sports and then following graduation went onto play competitive softball before putting that aside to coach his son Greg. He managed and coached for the next 10 years competitive winning baseball teams with a focus on teaching baseball fundamentals, skills development and leadership. Several of his players went onto play high school, college and minor league baseball and are now in William Mason High Schools Hall of Fame. In addition, Floyd was a competitive bowler and avid golfer. Floyd made friends easily and cherished the many friendships that he had in his lifetime. In recent years he looked forward to Mondays and Thursdays and sharing a beer with his good buddies at the “Chicken House” aka BW3.
An exceptional man, Floyd defined what it meant to be a husband and father. He was the embodiment of love and strength, ensuring that no family member ever left without a hug and a kiss. His passion for his family resonated deeply, earning him the affectionate titles of Dad, Grandpa, Gramps and “Poppy,” which he wore proudly.
Floyd's legacy of integrity and love will forever be held in the hearts of his family and friends. Though they will miss him dearly each day, his family finds comfort that he is the arms of the Lord and they will cherish the countless joyful moments and hearty laughs ignited by Floyd’s delightful sense of humor. His spirit will continue to inspire and bring smiles, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knows no bounds.
