It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John W. (Jack) Wilson Donnelly, Jr. of Mason, Ohio, who departed this life surrounded by the warmth and love of his cherished family.
A stalwart of integrity and valor, John served our nation with distinction during the Korean War, exemplifying the true spirit of patriotism. His devotion to his country continued throughout his life as an esteemed member of the Mason American Legion. John’s commitment to service extended to his community, where he was an active and devoted member of the Bible Baptist Church. Additionally, he was involved with the Middletown Masonic Temple, where the enduring bonds of brotherhood enriched his life and the lives of those around him. His unwavering dedication to the tenets of Masonry and his belief in God and in his faith, manifested in a life spent giving generously to others and embodying the values of charity and integrity.
John’s legacy as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather shines brightly. Together with his beloved wife Ann (Elizabeth), he nurtured a large, blended family that includes eight children: Kim Donnelly, Karen Loveless (Gary deceased), (Butch Helton deceased), Kris Saylor, (Jack Donnelly deceased), Beth Helton, Missy (Tim) Cole, and Rick (Angie) Donnelly. John found joy in the laughter and love of his grandchildren—Sarah, Jessica, Lisa, Ashley, Julie, Chad, Kelsey, Brandon, Casey, Nick, Elizabeth, Maxx, Taylor, Joe, Tyler, and Anna.
Nature held a special place in John’s heart; he found solace and happiness in the outdoors, particularly in the meticulously tended yard that reflected his attention to detail and love for beauty. John relished the camaraderie of friends and family while enjoying outdoor pastimes like golfing and playing softball. A steadfast supporter of Ohio sports, he delighted in cheering on his beloved teams—the Cincinnati Bengals and Ohio State—whether in the electrifying atmosphere of the stadiums or from the comfort of home, surrounded by his family.
Generosity defined John’s character. His selfless contributions included volunteering for Hospice, and he bore a special affinity for veterans, recognizing the sacrifices they made for our freedom.
While John’s compassion for others was boundless, the core of his existence resided in his profound love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. To them, he dedicated his life, ensuring they felt the depth of his affection each day. The memories and life lessons he imparted will remain forever etched in their hearts, serving as the cornerstone of his unparalleled legacy—a legacy built on love, honor, and unwavering faith.
As we say farewell to John, we celebrate a remarkable life—one that inspired many and will be deeply missed. In the hearts and lives of his family, John W. Donnelly, Jr. has left an indelible mark that will endure for generations to come.
