Martha Poulton

Martha Poulton, a long-time resident of Newark Ohio, peacefully went to be with the Lord at the age of 85 on Sunday, January 7, 2024.

Our mother was born on February 24, 1938 in Logan, Ohio.  She graduated from Philo High School.  After graduation she worked as a secretary for Meadow Gold Dairy where she met our dad, Gerald. He would take frequent breaks to get ice cream so he could see the cute girl working in the front office. They married a short time later.

Mom was small but mighty.  She overcame many obstacles with a positive attitude and a smile.  At times however, her German heritage showed through with a little bit of stubbornness.  Mom made friends easily and loved to talk to everyone. She loved her friends from church, work and new friends at her new home in Cincinnati. She had a great sense of style and loved getting dressed up every time she left the house.  She enjoyed shopping, antiquing, food and cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes.  She found her greatest joy in spending time with her church and her grandchildren. She made many great memories with her grandchildren while vacationing in Hilton Head.

Martha is survived by her daughters Brenda (John) Beard and Deborah (Tom) Reed; her six grandchildren Emily Beard, Andrea (Logan) Collins, Jaclyn (Kevin) Hillard, Taylor Willoughby, Andersen (Chelsea) Reed, Kaelen (Brittani) Reed; great grandchildren Karter, Myles and Theo; nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law Susie Sherburn and Jennie McCoid.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald Poulton, her parents Pearl and Dorothy Sherburn, brother Larry Sherburn and sister Connie Blake.

A visitation will be held Saturday, January 13 from 9:30 AM until time of service beginning at 10:30 AM. The service will be held at Shorten and Ryan Funeral Home at 400 Reading Road Mason, Ohio 45040.
