Mary Ann Cowan, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, peacefully passed away at her residence in Mason, Ohio, surrounded by her loving family on June 22, 2025.
Mary Ann was a cherished matriarch to her children: John Stuart II, Barbara Ann (Richard) Davis, Mary Rebecca Kirby, Stephen Lawrence (Phyllis) Cowan, Josephe Albert Cowan, and Gretchen Marie (Leroy) Pennington. Her legacy lives on through her sixteen grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, John Stuart Cowan, and by her dear siblings: John Schroth, Betty Levendusky, Julie Carter, and Margaret Walker. Mary Ann's life was marked by love and dedication to her family, showcasing the strength of a nurturing spirit.
Mary Ann's journey as a mother began in the embrace of her home, until her youngest child entered full-day school. It was then that she ventured into the professional world as a secretary, proudly retiring from American Hospital Supply Company. Her work ethic mirrored her unwavering commitment to family.
A passionate traveler, Mary Ann found joy in exploring the world alongside her husband. Their adventures took them across beautiful destinations including Hawaii, Alaska, Australia, New Zealand, England, and Greece, and Ireland, not to mention the countless cruises and trips throughout nearly every state in the United States.
Christmas held a special place in her heart-not just as a devoted Catholic and parishioner of St Susanna’s, but also, as a time to gift her love and joy to her family. She wed in 1957 at Christ The King Church, and was proud that her wedding was the first to be performed in the new parish. Mary Ann cherished her time at Stepping Stones where she enjoyed swimming, and she found peace in the tranquil walks around her local parks nearly every day.
Family was the cornerstone of Mary Ann's life, and her greatest achievement. Sundays became a cherished tradition filled with family dinners, growing stronger as they gathered together in love. She ensured that family time was sacred, spending Thursdays with her sister Peggy for shopping and lunch, and frequently enjoying precious moments with her niece Cindy.
Mary Ann's unwavering dedication to her family, the joyful memories, and the laughter shared around the dinner table will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. Her spirit will continue to inspire and comfort her loved ones, reminding them of the love that binds them together.
In Lieu of flowers the family is asking a donation be made in Mary Ann's name to one of the following charities of your choosing Alzheimer's or American Cancer Society, or American Heart Association.
Proceeding after the Graveside Service there will be a lunch provided a the American Legion. The address is 401 Reading Road, Mason, Ohio, 45040
