Richard J. Volungis
Born on March 19, 1930 in Worcester, Massachusetts to Adam and Regina (Tamulevich), the youngest of eight children.
Predeceased by both parents and his siblings: Three brothers Daniel C. Volungis, Rev. Alphonse A. Volungis, Edward V. Volungis and four sisters: Julia Burneika, Mildred Houston, Mary Arena, Virginia Ivaska.
Survived by his wife of 61 years Mildred (Spelman) and their two daughters Sarah Woodland (Alan), and son Gareth of Frankurt am Main, Germany and Nina Murray (Michael) and sons, Michael, Brendan, Matthew, and Daniel of Forest Virginia. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA with a B.Sc in Chemistry and a M.Sc in Chemistry from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst.
After serving as a chemist in the US Army during the Korean conflict, he pursed a career in plastics research and engineering with several companies, American Viscos, FMC, Northern Petrochemical/Enron and Quantum/ Millenium.
In the course of the years he volunteered his time to the Episcopal Diocese of Delaware, especially to Camps and Conferences, and Sunday School; the Boy Scouts and the Wilmington (Delaware) Trail Club.
A memorial visitation will take place at St. Anne Episcopal Church (6461 Tylersville Rd, West Chester Township, OH 45069) on Saturday, December 28, 2019 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM where a memorial service will follow beginning at 2:00 PM. Following the memorial service, a memorial ceremony will take place in the St. Anne's Memorial Garden for those who would like to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA of Greater Cincinnati or St. Anne's Episcopal Church of West Chester.
