Robert Orlando

April 15, 1948 — March 29, 2017

Robert "Bob” Joseph Orlando, 68, went home to be with his Lord on March 29, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in Christ supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Bob was born in St. Louis, Missouri on April 15, 1948 to the late Joseph Orlando and Maria Ottinger, of St. Louis. He graduated from Bishop DuBourg High School and was close to his grandparents Peter and Teresa Orlando, who helped raise him.  Bob graduated from the Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology at St. Louis University in 1969 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and then received his Master’s Degree in 1970  from the University of Arizona in Tucson.  He accepted a position at General Electric in Schenectady, NY in 1970 in steam turbines, where he met his future bride, Kathy. He transferred to GE Aircraft Engines in Cincinnati in 1986, finishing his career in Preliminary Design.  He served GE  for over 40 years and is fondly remembered by his colleagues as a mentor with an incredible work ethic, kindness, and intelligence, and as a man who loved Christ and was devoted to his family.  He contributed to nearly 70 patents during his career at GE.

Bob was blessed with a loving family.  He married his best friend Kathy McCarthy on June 26, 1971 in Schenectady, NY.  Together, Bob and Kathy raised their three children with patience, discipline and love.  Bob taught them how to love others, to work hard while trusting the Lord, and how to make a perfect meatball. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to appreciate the beauty of the Gospel. He was kind, funny, and wise, always having time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small.  He is dearly missed by his loved ones who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his Creator and Savior.

Bob is survived by his wife, Kathy; his three children Stephen Orlando (Tina), Maureen Mulrooney (Neil), and Jason Orlando (Mary); nine grandchildren that he adored: Sophia, Ava and Eliza (Stephen); Ryan, Caroline and Luke (Maureen); and Annabelle, Madelyn, and Carina (Jason); and his mother, Maria Ottinger and his sister, Michelle Niemeier.  He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Orlando and his grandparents Peter and Teresa Orlando.

The memorial service for Bob will be held at North Cincinnati Community Church on Saturday, April 1st beginning with a visitation at 10am. The 11 am service will be officiated by Reverend Michael Craddock.  A reception will follow at 12pm.  A graveside service for family and close friends will follow the reception.
