Ruth Langill

December 20, 1927 — January 24, 2018

Ruth Charlotte Langill (nee Sochurek), at 90 years old, from Crownsville, MD passed away peacefully on 1/24/2018 at her daughter's home surrounded by loving family. Following a stroke late in 2016, Ruth fought admirably to recover. She was preceded in death by her three sisters Ella Feeney, Florence May and Mildred Haas. Ruth was born at home in Springfield, Massachusetts on 12/20/1927 to Thomas and Genevieve Sochurek. Upon graduating Springfield High, she immediately worked as a telephone operator. She also worked for Friendly's, Mass Mutual, and Long & Foster as a realtor. She was an accomplished seamstress and worked at a bridal boutique for a number of years. Ruth also volunteered at the White House during the Clinton administration. She met the love of her life, Richard Langill at the Whippernon Country Club in Russell, Massachusetts. They married in 1955 and had 62 wonderful years together. Through the ensuing years they had three daughters, Jane, Nancy, and Lynn. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and a knowledgeable and helpful friend. She had a fun, witty, and infectious sense of humor which enriched the lives of everyone around her. Her great passion was collecting and dealing antiques. She was particularly fond of Victorian hatpins and buttonhooks. Ruth loved to travel (the family joked that she always had a suitcase packed under the bed, ready to go). Proud of her heritage, she had the opportunity to visit Sweden and Czechoslovakia to research her genealogy. Ruth's other passions included gardening, reading, cooking, entertaining and pinochle. Left to honor and remember Ruth are her husband Richard Langill and their daughters Jane Langill-Cole (Dave), Nancy Nichols (Robert), and Lynn Smith (Terrence), five grandchildren, Matthew McAllister, Genevieve Nichols, Robert Nichols, Charlotte Smith, and Audrey Smith, and two great grandchildren Bretton McAllister and Declan McAllister, as well as a special nephew, Alfred Gladding who was like a brother to her. She also left behind many family members and friends from coast to coast. A celebration of life will be held this spring in Maryland, at a date to be determined.
