James Stauffer

February 22, 1940 — May 31, 2022

James (Jim) Stauffer, beloved husband of Rebecca (Becky) Stauffer, passed peacefully on May 31, 2022, in Mason, Ohio.

Jim was born on February 22, 1940 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Cryl and Eulalia (Wert) Stauffer. A lifelong Buckeye Fan, Jim attended The Ohio State University and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Engineering. Post-graduation, Jim became a partner with Grant, Brundage, Baker and Stauffer, Limited Consulting Engineers in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio. James met his bride, Becky, at the firm, where she served as his secretary. Following a short engagement, Jim and Becky were married on May 8, 1976 at The Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Napoleon, Ohio.

Jim later began the Stauffer Construction Company of Mason, Ohio with his younger brother, Jeffrey (Jeff). The brothers completed many builds and projects throughout their years in business together. He leaves a legacy of houses that he built throughout Celina, Lima, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

The greatest joy in Jim’s life was his family. Jim and Becky adopted three sisters-Sherri, Chasity, and Kristy Stauffer. As a family, they made memories traveling in their GMC Motorhome together. They also enjoyed picnicking and working on the acreage where they built their future homestead in Mason, Ohio. Jim and Becky also took pleasure in raising their granddaughter, Courtney Stauffer, who was very close to her grandfather.

Jim was a quiet, honorable man who enjoyed working and being busy. He expressed his love by providing for his family. He was a deep thinker and a wonderful teacher who shared his trade knowledge with anyone who was interested.

Jim is survived by his doting wife of 46 years, Becky. He is also survived by his loving family-his daughters Sherri (Jeremy) Keel of Noblesville, Indiana and Chasity Stauffer (Greg Dawson) of South Lebanon, Ohio; his grandchildren Chelsea, Zachary, Ian, Timothy Keel, and Karsten Beemer of Noblesville, Indiana; and Courtney Stauffer of Mason, Ohio; his siblings Jone Lane of Lima, Ohio, Jerry Stauffer of Reston, Virginia, and Jeff (Susan) Stauffer of Mason, Ohio. He is the beloved uncle of Jack (Kate), Jenna (Brandon Griffin), and John Stauffer and cherished great-uncle of Joanna Stauffer. Jim also leaves behind a great number of extended family, neighbors, friends, and caretakers who admired him.

Jim was proceeded in death by his parents, in-laws Richard and Hildegarde (Gerken) Reiser, daughter Kristy, sister Barbara (Barbie) Stauffer; and his beloved black Labrador, Misty.
