Kate Lunsford

December 12, 1938 — January 17, 2021

Lakewood, Cleveland

Kate graduated from Michigan State University with a BA in Business Administration and a minor in music.  After graduating, she moved to Cleveland, Ohio and spent most of her career as executive secretary to several top corporate chairmen.  She was also the executive assistant to the Managing Director of Great Lakes Theater and Volunteer Liaison for the 800 women in the Women's Committee, Blossom Women's Committee and Junior Committee of  The Cleveland Orchestra.

Born in Muskegon, Michigan to Todd and Lydarene Lunsford, she and older sister, Ann Lunsford Mikulski (Florian), learned piano from their mother.  Kate played the French Horn in high school, college, and the Cleveland Philharmonic, a community orchestra.  Kate received a full scholarship to MSU on her horn, playing in the orchestra and concert band.  (Girls were not allowed in the marching band in the 1950s!)

Kate was a member of Trinity Cathedral (Episcopal) where she served on the Vestry for six years, was a lector and Eucharist server.  When she moved to Lakewood, Ohio, she became a member of Lakewood Congregational Church, where her ashes are to be interred in its columbarium.

Kate loved living in Lakewood and visiting the Westside Market and Blackbird Baking for her favorite chocolate chip cookies.   Being a true Cleveland fan, she loved the Indians and the Browns and the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame, but above all she loved the Cleveland Orchestra.

Kate is survived by her Cousins Bob (Helen) Majors and Nancy Hodges.  Dear Aunt of  Thomas Mikulski (Susan), Nancy Maluso (David),  Michael Mikulski (Clare), and Susan Mullin (Kevin) and her brother-in-law Florian Mikulski.   Also survived by 13 great nieces and nephews and by two great grand nieces.
