Patrick Timothy Kern

March 17, 1956 — November 18, 2021

Patrick Timothy Kern, born March 17, 1956, in Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away November 18, 2021.

Pat Kern never met a stranger. From his neighborhood growing up through every school and job, he fostered lifelong friendships wherever he went, and his circle reached across the country and beyond. If he ever did meet a person with whom he did not share a mutual friend or familial tie, you’d never know it. He could always find common ground.

Your first and fiercest friendships start within your family, and he leaves behind one that will miss him ferociously: Wife of 35 years and love of his life, Kelly; daughters Molly and Jackie (Jeff Engle); siblings Linda, Jenny, Danny (Patty) and Connie Land (Danny); niece Colleen Noble (Matt) and nephews Timmy (Robyn), Paul (Samantha), Chris (Susan), Dennis Land and Mike Land; and many others. He joins parents Norma and John and brother Dave on the other side.

Pat was a spellbinding storyteller. He was blessed with the gift of the gab, fitting for an Irish Catholic born on St. Patrick’s Day. A longtime member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, his final wish was that his family bring his remains to his ancestral Ireland.

Not only could he strike up a conversation or tell a joke about anything, with anyone, but Pat was also a profound listener. As much as he was a comedian, he was also a rock. Pat carried a quiet strength, the first to step up and the last to ask for recognition.

He worked in the liquor industry for three decades before transitioning to transportation and logistics. Ever the industrious hard worker, he was employed through the end. When not working and spending time with family and friends, Pat loved his local sports, reading up (and schooling others) on Cincinnati history and maintaining an impeccable mustache.

They say a person doesn’t really die until someone says their name for the last time. With all his infamous stories, he won’t be gone for generations to come.

Life of the party, he always knew how to have a good time. In that spirit, he did not want a traditional funeral service or memorial, but rather a party in his honor. Donations can be made to Hospice of Southwest Ohio. Pat's family will host an open-house party in his honor Sunday, Dec. 12, 2-6 p.m., at the St. Patrick's Knights of Columbus (7500 Fairpark Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45216). All are welcome.
